I had no idea where to start when I began writing my personal statement and college supplementals. Working with Julie I was able to work out step by step how to develop ideas and turn them into essays. She was able to explain things in a clear and concise way allowing me to create something truly personal.
I really recommend working with Julie to anyone who might not know how to start writing a college essay.

Julie’s expertise and guidance allowed me to write an essay that is not only grammatically and structurally correct, but expresses who I used to be, who I am today, and who I want to be in the future.
My essay would not be what it was without her, and for that I am deeply grateful.

Julie’s writing process freed me up to explore more options than I thought, instead of limiting me to only what I thought was acceptable in the moment.
I also felt like every question she asked made me think harder and harder about what I was trying to say in my essay, and really helped me build the narrative that I ended up with. Without her push to think critically about what I could say through experiences, I feel as though my essay would have stayed more surface-level.

When our daughter started to work on one of the U Penn supplemental essay prompts: “Write a short thank-you note to someone you have not yet thanked and would like to acknowledge.” I immediately thought of Julie. At the start of the college application process, she helped our daughter refine her Personal Statement.
Julie understands the challenges faced throughout the college application process. She created a space where our student could speak in her most genuine voice, show brilliance, vulnerabilities, and express her passions. Through patient brainstorming and reflection, she helps students uncover ideas that authentically represent who they are.
Julie also understands a parent’s struggle. She would gently and patiently offer us parents advice so we could be better cheerleaders for our daughter.
Thank you, Julie. You are more than a college essay advisor but your mentorship and guidance have been the guiding light along the path!

Thank you, Julie, for all of the support you gave Maeve throughout the college application process. From helping her craft a strong and authentic personal statement to guiding her through researching and building a thoughtful list of colleges, your expertise made a tremendous difference.
The college application journey can be overwhelming for students and parents and it often brings added tension into the parent-child relationship. Your calm, patient, and kind approach helped remove much of that stress from our home. By serving as a trusted, neutral guide, you allowed Maeve to feel supported rather than pressured, and you gave us peace of mind knowing she was in such capable hands.
You connected with Maeve in a way that immediately put her at ease, helping her not only understand “what” she needed to do, but “how” to do it in a way that truly captured her voice. Your guidance was exemplary, and we are deeply grateful for the confidence, clarity, and calm you brought to this important process.

I really enjoyed getting a glimpse into the process of how Julie helped my son with his college essays. He and I were butting heads whenever I tried to help and I realized after watching Julie work with him that I really needed to remove myself from the process.
I had been trying to help keep him on track and help him brainstorm, but his essays shouldn’t be about what I think of as his strengths or challenges—they should be about what HE sees as those. And in order for him to really reflect on what those were, he needed me to stop talking.
Julie was able to really pull out of him what he was thinking—not an easy task, either!—both by challenging him to really think about it and giving him the space he needed to respond.
I think we were all impressed—and surprised—by what he was able to do when given the tools and space to write his own essays.

Last summer Julie helped my son, Kai, with his college essay. Yesterday he was accepted to his first choice school, Lafayette College, with a scholarship and generous financial aid package. Their dual degree program with engineering and international studies is a perfect fit for him and thankfully Lafayette agreed.
They mentioned his essay in the acceptance letter. Maybe that’s a normal thing, but it seemed noteworthy to us.
I can’t thank Julie enough for her help. Today my son’s dreams seem more in reach than ever.
